Alaska Airlines
For passengers flying with Alaska Airlines, the maximum dimensions for check-in bags are 62 linear inches (length, width and height combined). The maximum weight for checked-in luggage is 50 lbs.
Checked bags between 51 and 100 lbs or between 63 and 115 linear inches will incur an overweight or oversized baggage fee. Bags larger than 100 lbs or 115 linear inches are not permitted on Alaska Airlines.
Allegiant Airlines
With Allegiant Airlines, your check-in bags can be no larger than 80 linear inches, and these bags must weigh 50 lbs or less. You can purchase up to four checked bags per passenger. Fees will apply for bags that exceed this size or weight.
American Airlines
Passengers on American Airlines flights may bring a piece of checked luggage up to 62 linear inches in size, and up to 50 lbs in weight. First and Business Class customers may bring a bag weighing up to 70 lbs. Passengers travelling to or from Australia and New Zealand may also bring a bag weighing up to 70 lbs.
Breeze Airways
If you’re flying with Breeze Airways, your check-in bag can be up to 62 linear inches and no heavier than 50 lbs. You will be charged for overweight or oversized bags, and bags exceeding 80 linear inches or 99 lbs will not be accepted onto the flight.
Delta Airlines
With Delta Airlines, your checked bag can be up to 62 linear inches. Basic Economy, Main Cabin, Delta Comfort+ and Delta Premium Select passengers may bring a bag weighing up to 50 lbs, while Delta One, First and Business passengers have a checked bag limit of 70 lbs.
Frontier Airlines
When travelling with Frontier Airlines, checked bags must be less than 62 linear inches in size and weigh no more than 40 lbs. You can pay to upgrade your baggage weight allowance up to 99 lbs, but bags weighing more than 100 lbs or more than 110 linear inches in size will not be accepted.
JetBlue Airways
On JetBlue Airways, passengers may bring up to two checked bags up to 62 linear inches each in size, and up to 50 lbs each in weight. If your check-in luggage weighs between 51 and 99 lbs, this will incur an overweight bag fee, and bags between 63 and 80 inches will incur an oversized bag fee. Bags that weigh more than 70 lbs are not permitted on transatlantic flights.
Southwest Airlines
For those travelling on Southwest Airlines, the maximum size for checked luggage is 62 linear inches and the maximum weight is 50 pounds. You may check in two bags for free and there will be an additional charge for bags larger than 80 inches or heavier than 50 lbs.
Spirit Airlines
With Spirit Airlines, the maximum size for checked baggage is 62 inches and 40 lbs in weight. Bags that exceed this size and weight will be subject to additional charges and bags over 100 lbs in weight and 80 linear inches in size will not be accepted onto the flight.
Sun Country Airlines
When flying with Sun Country Airlines, checked baggage can be no larger than 62 linear inches and no heavier than 50 lbs. For bags that are larger than this, additional oversized bag fees will apply. Bags weighing more than 70 lbs are not permitted on flights to or from Jamaica and Puerto Rico, and bags weighing more than 100 lbs are not accepted on any Sun Country flight.
Sun Country flights include one free under-seat item, any carry-on or checked luggage will be subject to a fee which may vary depending on your flight.
United Airlines
Passengers flying with United Airlines may bring a checked bag no larger than 30 inches x 20 inches x 12 inches including wheels and handles. If you’re travelling in Economy or Premium Economy, the maximum weight for a checked bag is 50 pounds. Those in United Business, First or Polaris business class may bring a checked bag weighing up to 70 pounds.
If your MileagePlus status is Silver, Gold, Platinum or 1k, you can bring a bag weighing up to 70 pounds. MileagePlus passengers with Star Alliance Gold status may bring a bag weighing up to 50 pounds in Economy or 70 pounds in Business class.

Tips for flying with checked luggage
Sometimes flying with just carry-on luggage can make your flight more straightforward, but if you need to bring larger check-in suitcases, here are some tips for making your journey smoother:
- Invest in a sturdy, hard-shell luggage set that will keep your items protected during transit in the cargo hold (we’ve all seen how luggage can be thrown around)
- Check your airline’s baggage rules before you fly, including maximum bag sizes and weights, and any items you’re now allowed to bring. Weigh and measure your bags to make sure they fit within your airline’s size limits
- Add a tracker like an Air Tag to your bag to keep track of them once they’re out of sight. Luggage can go missing after you’ve checked it in so adding this precaution makes it more likely you'll be reunited with it
- Consider packing a change of clothes and some small toiletries in your carry-on in case your checked luggage goes missing or is delayed getting to your destination. This way you’ll be able to get straight into your travel plans without having to wait around
- Keep any valuables, important documents, electricals and anything fragile with you in your carry-on luggage to avoid them being lost or damaged
